Courageous campaigner Peter Knighton has taken his petition on discrimination against disabled people right to the top.
The Masterton man gathered 3500 signatures from people who hold dear to the belief discrimination against the disabled is not acceptable and, by presenting it to Wairarapa MP Alastair Scott, had the weighty document passed on to Minister for Disability Issues Nicky Wagner.
Mrs Wagner has responded by contacting Mr Knighton thanking him for his efforts, confirming laws are in place to stop discrimination against disabled people and congratulating him for helping to raise awareness of the issue.
Mr Knighton, who has lived in Masterton for six years, began the petition last June, gathering around 300 signatures in the first couple of months but greatly expanding it in the following months before contacting Mr Scott.
Mr Scott said bullying and discriminating against disabled people was illegal.
