Wairarapa cricket enthusiasts are being asked to lock arms with their counterparts around the country and protest Radio Sport's decision not to broadcast live commentaries of Plunket Shield four-day matches over the 2011-12 season.
They have been encouraged by the New Zealand Cricket Players Association to sign an online petition requesting Radio Sport return to the status quo, a petition which has already attracted hundreds of signatures.
The association says Radio Sport's move to provide updates on scores through their internet website instead of live commentaries meant the end of what was a wonderful tradition ... "the perfect backdrop to that other great NZ tradition of painting house roofs".
They are hoping their actions will be as successful as other online petitions which saw the FA Cup telecast on TVNZ and the shifting of the Crowd Goes Wild to a respectable viewing time.
