Petition calls for airport to downtown train

A petition with over 10,000 signatures calling for a rail link between downtown Auckland and the airport has been presented to the Auckland Regional Council.

The petition was organised by the Campaign for Better Transport. Convenor Cameron Pitches said the petition was received "very nicely, thank you very much" this morning.

"It was about as positive as we could hope for and the next step is for funding to turn it into a reality," Mr Pitches said.

He said the project would not only benefit airport users but also people living in the area that make the commute to and from the city everyday.
