"It looks gorgeous, absolutely beautiful, amazing".
Peter Gordon is on cloud nine about his new restaurant and we can see why. Located on the 53rd Floor of the Sky Tower, The Sugar Club is a sumptuous mix of elegant design with brass fittings, wooden bar tops, bespoke carpets and lavish views.
"I gave the designers a brief based on my favourite movie, I Am Love, which is set in a palazzo in Milan in the 1930s. It's the best of European art deco-inspired design - luscious, yet casual too."
This will be the third Sugar Club restaurant Gordon has been involved with, following incarnations in Wellington and London's Notting Hill. Now he has teamed up with SkyCity and taken his Sugar Club to greater heights. A constant throughout all three Sugar Clubs is Gordon's immense talent at creating food that is exciting yet simple, with every mouthful a happy collision of flavours from around the world. On the menu in Auckland will be dishes he has become famous for - long-marinated beef pesto packed full of garlic, mustard, chilli and tamari, and laksa, which Gordon introduced to diners long before many of us had heard of this spicy, complex, delicious Southeast Asian soup.
Open seven days for lunch and dinner, Sat and Sun from 11am for brunch. Ph (09) 363 6000.
