A Gisborne pensioner is heartbroken after is pet goat was cruelly slaughtered while tethered to a chain outside his house.
Reg "Pop" Light had looked after the goat, called Cilla, for eight years, the Gisborne Herald reported.
Last Thursday his neighbours showed him Cilla's remains, left hanging on the chain.
She had been skinned up to her neck and all her legs were sliced off, while her heart and liver had been cut out.
The 80-year-old was devastated.
He pointed to his chest and said: "It hurts right in here".
"She was a beautiful little thing, really lovely. Everybody loved her."
Cilla was slaughtered a few metres away from her six-month-old kid.
"Lucky for us the baby goat was left behind. It will help to heal the sorrow," Mr Light said.
Police and the SPCA are investigating the incident.
