KEY POINTS:
One person is in hospital with serious burns after a house fire in Whakatane overnight.
Fire crews were called to McGarvey Road, and found the house well alight when they got there.
It is believed the fire broke out in the laundry at the back of the house.
Everyone else in the house managed to escape safely.
Meanwhile fire crews are still at the scene of a fire in a disused factory near Palmerston North.
The blaze broke out yesterday at the old meatworks at Works Road at Longburn.
At its height appliances from all around the area were called to deal with the blaze.
One truck remains at the scene, and is expected to be there all day.
Some youths were in the building when the blaze broke out and a couple of them were unaccounted for for some time, but were later located.
The cause of the fire is not known yet.
