A person is in a critical condition after being struck by a train in the Waikato town of Matamata overnight.
Police were advised of the incident at 9.11pm on Tuesday, and said initially that the person was thought to be seriously injured.
Hinuera Rd was closed and motorists were asked to avoid the area.
The road has now reopened but police said this morning the person is in a critical condition.
