Police have confirmed a person has been hit by a train beside State Highway 2 near Papamoa.
NewstalkZB earlier reported that human body parts had been found scattered along the railway line.
Police said they were informed about 4.30pm of the find near Kairua Rd off SH2 but the incident was believed to have occurred some time this morning or last night.
Use of the railway line has been suspended while investigations continue.
