A person has been taken to hospital after a fire in a block of flats in Invercargill overnight.
Firefighters arrived at the Crinan St property just before 1.30am to find a flat engulfed by fire.
A Southern Fire Service spokesman said it was initially feared people were trapped inside the property.
Everyone had made it out safely but one resident was taken to Kew Hospital in Invercargill and treated for smoke inhalation.
Four fire crews fought the fire, which badly damaged one of three flats.
