A person is in a serious condition following a water-related incident at West Auckland’s notorious Piha Beach.
Emergency services responded to the beach at about 4.08pm on Monday.
“At this stage it appears one person is in a serious condition,” police said.
“Further information will be provided when available.”
A Surf Life Saving NZ (SLSNZ) spokesperson confirmed that surf lifeguards from United North Piha responded to an incident just north of Lion Rock this afternoon.
Hato Hone St John said it was notified of a water incident near Marine Parade South this afternoon and responded with one ambulance and one first responders unit.
No further information was available as the incident was still active, St John said.
