One person has been taken to hospital after a mystery chemical leaked from a container at Auckland Airport.
Five fire crews and a hazardous chemical unit were called to the Air New Zealand Cargo building on Ogilvie Cres. The leak sprang from a 1000 litre container and covered a large area, northern fire communications shift manager Jaron Phillips said.
The area was evacuated, cordoned off and the chemical contained.
Two people who smelled the chemical were assessed by ambulance and one was taken to hospital, Phillips said.
The fire crews were called at 5.45am. It was expected to take hours to thoroughly clean up the area, Phillips said.
