One person has taken to hospital suffering from smoke inhalation after a fire broke out in a central Wellington building today.
The blaze started in the basement of the AXA building on The Terrace in a florist's shop, Inspector Mike Coleman, of central police communications, told NZPA.
The fire blocked off the busy Wellington street, about 1.20pm, causing traffic chaos, he said.
However, the Fire Service had the blaze under control and the road was expected to be opened shortly.
