A person has died after the car they were driving went into the water at a beach in Canterbury.
Police were notified about 9.45pm on Friday night that a car had been seen going into the water at Kairaki Beach.
The car was fully submerged when emergency services arrived. The driver of the car was found dead soon after.
The driver's body was recovered by police last night and work is underway this morning to notify the person's family.
