One person has died in house fire near Oxford, Canterbury overnight.
The Oxford Volunteer Fire Brigade were called to a house fire on Domain Road, about 8km south of the Wamakariri town around 4.01am.
Fire Service Southern Communications spokesman Riwai Grace said the house was well involved when the crew arrived.
At 4.11am, the fire service received a report a person was inside the building.
Mr Riwai said four fire fighters equipped with breathing apparatus searched the home. A person was found dead sitting in a chair in the living room around 4.40am.
