Person dies in Warkworth crash

A person has died after a fatal crash north of Auckland.

Emergency services were called to the scene of the two car collision in Warkworth shortly after 3:15 this afternoon.

Both police and fire crew attended the accident.

The road was blocked in both directions and cordons were in place, police said in a statement earlier this afternoon.

The Serious Crash Unit was attending and no further information was available at that stage.

Auckland Westpac Rescue Helicopter communications advisor Lincoln Davies said a chopper had been tasked to the site of the crash at 3.30pm.

However, it was stood down shortly afterwards.
