Person dies following fatal crash in Massey, West Auckland, police investigation under way

A police and forensic investigation is under way after a person was fatally struck by a car in the West Auckland suburb of Massey.

Police said in a statement they were called to the scene of the fatal accident on Lanham Lane about 6.50pm last night.

“A man has sadly died at the scene. The Serious Crash Unit is in attendance and police are making inquiries. People are asked to avoid the area.”

An NZME photographer at the scene said 12 police vehicles remained at the scene for several hours after the initial call-out.

A scene guard was stationed outside a property in Lanham Lane overnight and a police tent was set up on the driveway.

Specialist police staff remained, including a forensic photographer and Serious Crash Unit members, as detectives donned coveralls while working in the driveway.

Neighbors in the cul-de-sac were watching from their windows as the police investigation continued into the evening.
