A person has died after crashing their car through a barrier and down a bank in the Thames-Coromandel District this afternoon.
The accident happened as the car was travelling downhill on Manaia Road, Te Kouma about 3pm, police said.
The sole occupant of the car died at the scene, about 52km north of Thames, police said.
The road was not closed but police asked drivers to take care in the area.
