Former Chanel College student and Wairarapa hockey representative Elizabeth Perry has been named to trial for the Black Sticks in January.
Perry's selection comes after a series of impressive performances for Canterbury in the 2008 national hockey league, a competition in which no fewer than nine past or present Wairarapa players were involved.
In the past category were Jamie Schaefer and Holly Gaskin for Wellington, Elizabeth Perry for Canterbury, Sophie Wickens for Midlands, Pip Dalziell for Auckland and Wendy Hull and Andy Ewington for Central. And in the present category were Jesse Workman and Dane Lett, both of whom played for Central as well.
The men's section was won by a Midlands team which included players from Australia, Waikato, Thames Valley, Tauranga and Rotorua and the women's section by North Harbour.
Unavilable for Wellington in the NHL was another Wairarapa player Ana-May Playle but she has been playing in Fiji over the past week as a member of the New Zealand Maori women's team. They made the semi-finals of the Pacific Cup tournament where they were beaten in a penalty shootout by Fiji after the teams were locked together at 3-3 at the game's end.
