Going public for the first time, 18 of the best bartenders from around the country will enthral
you with the art of pouring the perfect beer as they battle it out for this year's New Zealand
Stella Artois Draught Master 2005 title.
The winner will fly to Brussels, Belgium, to represent New Zealand in the World Draught Masters competition.
Originating in 1997, the Stella Artois World Draught Master contest is the only international draught master competition, making this award one of the most prestigious and recognised titles to be bestowed upon bartenders around the world.
The New Zealand Draught Masters competition that leads up to it is therefore one of a kind, and very keenly contested.
Contestants will perform a detailed seven-minute routine requiring them to pour and serve three different traditionally brewed beers—Stella Artois, Hoegaarden and Leffe.
Each has its own pouring ritual and characteristic glassware, where the colour, aroma and taste of each beer can be fully appreciated. Contestants will be judged according to a scoring system that measures mastery of pouring techniques and speed.
On display will be their skill in the art of hospitality and in-depth knowledge of beer.
The competition promises to be a complete sensory experience, with the audience being encouraged to sample the unique food and beer on offer.
And if you are feeling adventurous—why not try pouring a beer yourself?
