Pepper spray used on man with axe

Police used pepper spray to disable and arrest a man seen chasing another man with an axe in Kaikohe yesterday.

Four officers were called to Bissett Rd where, after a tense but short stand-off, they took the man with the axe into custody.

The police believe the incident involved family issues.

A 47-year-old is expected to appear today in the Kaikohe District Court on a charge of possessing an offensive weapon.
