* Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu has appointed Sophia Gunn as its first chief operating officer. Mrs Gunn has worked in a variety of financial roles and for the past eight years has been with CourierPost, most recently as commercial manager. At Deloitte she will have particular responsibility for the internal finance, administration and information technology components of the business.
* The Associate Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage, Judith Tizard, has become chairperson of the South Africa/New Zealand Advisory Board. She succeeds former National MP Joy McLauchlan, who retired from Parliament last year. The Associate Minister of Maori Affairs, Tariana Turia, replaces former Immigration Minister Tuariki Delamere on the board. Council of Trade Unions president Ross Wilson succeeds Angela Foulkes, who is now working in the private sector.
* Waitiri Capital Ltd has appointed Geoffrey Stafford as business analyst. Mr Stafford holds a BCom LLB from Otago University. Waitiri Capital is a boutique corporate adviser and strategic consultancy firm which specialises in venture capital formations.
* Grant Logan is expected to start with Goodman Fielder in early September as chief financial officer. He has been chairman and chief executive officer of Philips Electronics in Australia for the past three years and was previously chief executive of Bayer Australia for five years.
* Mercury Energy has boosted its customer services with the appointment of a new call centre manager and sales manager. Linda Danen has been appointed call centre manager, a newly-created position. She is responsible for improving service and reducing customer waiting times. Rowena Sykes is the new sales manager. Her focus will be on maintaining and building relationships between Mercury Energy and its business customers.
* Advantage Group has appointed Jeanette Paine as group marketing communications manager. She held a variety of positions in the marketing communications team at Compaq Computer New Zealand, most recently as customer relationship marketing manager. She has over 10 years' communications experience, ranging through direct marketing, brand management, advertising, public relations and journalism. She holds a BA and a postgraduate diploma in journalism.
* John McGough has been appointed national sales manager of the Dynasty Hotel Group, focusing on the management of the corporate client base in the group's portfolio of properties. Mr McGough joins Dynasty from Avis Rent a car, where he was national account manager.
