Martin Brugger has been appointed executive chef of Accor's Auckland hotels, Novotel Auckland, Novotel Ellerslie and Hotel Ibis Ellerslie. He has worked in Europe and the Asia-Pacific area and was executive chef at the Shangri-La, Fiji. He will be responsible for the Vertigo Restaurant on the top floor of the Novotel Auckland and the Acacia Restaurant in the Ellerslie complex, which is due to open in September.

Cisco Systems, a world leader in networking for the internet, is expanding its New Zealand operations with the appointment of Greg Everett and Scott Bain as Auckland-based systems engineers. They will be responsible for the design, implementation and consultancy of a range of networking systems for enterprise and service providers. Everett comes from Cisco's London office and Mr Bain from Sytec.

The Hero Trust Board has appointed Steve Berry-Smith as director of sponsorship. He was project director for Hero 99. Heather Lee has been appointed parade coordinator for the parade in Ponsonby Rd, which will return on February 17 after missing this year. She has worked on the Lindauer Coastal Classic and the America's Cup Ball.

Law firm Simpson Grierson has appointed Geraline Knox as a senior associate in its communications and technology group. She will advise corporates and government bodies on legal and commercial issues relating to telecommunications, IT contracting and e-business. Ms Knox has a law degree from Auckland University. Before joining Simpson Grierson she worked for a television network in Malaysia as a news anchor, producer and journalist.

Dr Garry Clayton has been appointed director of graduate programmes at the University of Auckland business school. He has extensive management experience in the public and private sectors and was previously director of continuing education at Waikato University. One of his briefs will be to regularly review courses offered to ensure they meet the business community's professional development needs.

Woolworths (NZ) Ltd has appointed Juanita Neville as its marketing manager, responsible for its three supermarket brands, Woolworths, Big Fresh and Price Chopper. She was marketing manager for Pizza Hut New Zealand and has previously been involved in advertising in Australia, holding brand management positions for Sizzler International, Eagle Boys and Dial-a-Pizza. Amanda Davies, formerly of Allied Liquor, will report to Neville as alternative channel marketing manager.
