Several people who breached the liquor ban in Masterton last week have been punished with $200 fines.
Acting Senior Sergeant Ian Osland said the police public safety unit had issued several fines in the Kuripuni area.
Complaints from businesses in the CBD area had risen, he said.
"It's a timely reminder to members of the public that the CBD is a liquor ban area. Infringement notices can be issued to those in breach and we will be keeping an eye on areas in the vicinity of some of the pubs. We are aware that there have been complaints by local businesses about an increase in glass debris."
The liquor ban applies 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and covers Chapel St, Queen St and Dixon St, and extends as far as Kuripuni.
