Pedestrian struck by train in critical condition

A pedestrian struck by a train at Middlemore Station is in a critical condition in hospital this morning.

The woman, whose age has not been released by authorities, was hit shortly before 6pm yesterday.

She was initially taken to nearby Middlemore Hospital but was transferred to Auckland City Hospital overnight.

An Auckland District Health Board spokeswoman this morning said the woman remained in a critical condition.

She was the second person to be struck by a train in Auckland yesterday.

Earlier, a pedestrian walking across railway tracks at the Glen Innes Station was hit just before 7am.

The person, whose age and gender have not been released, was pronounced dead at the scene.
