A West Auckland pedestrian was taken to hospital with serious injuries suffered when he was hit by a car last night.
The man was walking along Te Pai Place and was struck by a car when he went to cross the road. "It's impacted the pedestrian. His head smashed on the window and he's in a serious condition," Senior Sergeant Seven Pivac said.
The man was taken to Auckland Hospital and the incident is under investigation, although it initially appeared to be an "unfortunate accident".
"As the investigation gets completed we'll have more of an idea about what has actually gone on and where our pedestrian has come from," Mr Pivac said. He urged pedestrians to use controlled crossing to get across roads and for motorists at night-time to be aware.
Surrounding streets were closed for a time last night while police examined the scene.
