A female pedestrian was fatally struck by a car near Palmerston North tonight.
Emergency services were called to the scene of the crash, at the city-end Rongotea Rd, just before 6pm.
The driver of the vehicle has been taken to hospital and police are working to confirm the dead woman's identity.
Rongotea Rd remains closed while investigators are at the crash spot and police say the dead woman's name will be released when her next of kin are notified.
