An elderly pedestrian who was killed by a wayward car in Oamaru wasn't a local, police say.
The 67-year-old man died and five others were injured after a vehicle drove on to a footpath colliding with three pedestrians and then two cars on the corner of Thames and Eden Sts in Oamaru at 11.30am yesterday.
Senior Sergeant Craig Sew Hoy, of Oamaru police, said the man who died was yet to be formally identified and next of kin were still being notified.
He wasn't a local Oamaru man but was from Otago, Mr Sew Hoy said.
The man and the two injured pedestrians weren't related and were strangers to each other, he said.
