A male pedestrian has been critically injured after being hit by a car south of Woodlands in Southland.
The accident occurred around 6:15am and emergency crew including police, ambulance and fire staff are currently at the scene.
There are diversions in place on State Highway 1, the first at the Woodlands Cemetary Road and State Highway 1 intersection. The second diversion is at the intersection of State Highway 1 and Heads Road.
A serious crash investigation has commenced.
