KEY POINTS:
A pedestrian hit by a bus in the Auckland suburb of Ponsonby yesterday is this morning in a "stable and comfortable condition".
A spokeswoman from the Auckland District Health Board said the man had been moved to a general ward.
Police said yesterday that the 49-year-old man was "very, very sick" after the incident and lost a lot of blood.
NZ Bus northern general manager Warren Fowler said that the pedestrian walked on to the road and the company was helping police with their enquiries.
"The driver acted quickly and called control who immediately alerted the police and ambulance services," Mr Fowler said.
Police cordoned off the bus for nearly two hours before it was removed from the scene at about 9.30am.
