An elderly pedestrian has died after being hit by a car in Cambridge on Friday.
The 82 year-old man died in Waikato Hospital overnight.
Police spokesman Andrew McAlley said the man was hit on Cambridge's main street - Queen St - which is also State Highway One.
He said the Serious Crash Unit is investigating the cause of the crash.
Mr McAlley said initial indications are that the man was struck down by the car as he went to cross the road.
The driver of the car stopped at the scene and has been spoken to by police. It is too early to say what, if any, charges will be laid.
The man's name has not yet been released.
