A woman was hit by a bus in Wellington's Manners Mall this afternoon, making her the fourth pedestrian to be knocked down since the new two-way bus route was opened in November.
It was understood the woman, in her 40s, stepped on to the road between two parked buses before being hit by another bus coming in the opposite direction about 5.15pm.
She suffered moderate injuries and was taken to Wellington Hospital, a St John ambulance spokeswoman said.
Wellington City Council spokesman Richard MacLean told NZPA the council will be talking to police and the bus company about the circumstances of the accident.
He wouldn't comment further, saying police would carry out their investigation.
The council last year spent $70,000 in a marketing campaign to promote the changes, and employed staff to patrol the route.
