A pedestrian is dead after being hit by a car at Rotorua today.
The incident happened on Te Ngae Rd (State Highway 30) just south of the Rotorua airport about 4.30am.
It appeared a pedestrian had been run over by a car and had died at the scene, police said.
Te Ngae Rd was closed between Lee Road and Owhata Road.
Due to the location of the crash no diversions around the scene were possible, but police were advising drivers to travel around Lake Rotorua via Ngongotaha and Hamurana and rejoin SH30 or 33 near Te Ngae.
