A pedestrian died early this morning after being hit by a vehicle in Upper Hutt.
Police said a man in his late 40s was struck on River Road, State Highway 2, around 12.30am.
He was taken to Wellington Hospital in a serious condition and died shortly after arriving.
His identity was not yet known.
Police said the two occupants of the vehicle were shaken but unhurt.
The man's death brought the weekend road toll to five.
