The death of an elderly Italian tourist, hit by a car driven by a disqualified driver, was a tragic accident, a Wellington coroner has found.
Laura Serrazanetti, 70, was struck by a car while crossing Taranaki Street in Wellington in December 2008. She died in Wellington Hospital six days later.
In his finding, released today, Ian Smith found Ms Serrazanetti died as a result of blunt force injuries to her head, chest and limbs following the accident.
"This tragic death is a timely reminder to both motorists and pedestrians to keep a vigilant lookout for each other while negotiating Wellington's CBD." he said.
