Police in Waitakere are investigating two car accidents last night, one which left a pedestrian in a critical condition.
At around 7.30pm, emergency services were called to the intersection of State Highway 16 and Dunlop Rd, about 1km from the Westgate Shopping Centre, after a vehicle hit a pedestrian.
He suffered serious injuries and late last night was in a critical but stable condition in Auckland City Hospital. Part of the highway was closed and detours were in place for two hours.
The other accident involved two vehicles on Brigham Creek Rd about an hour later.
No one was seriously hurt in that crash, but police said one person was taken to the accident and emergency centre on Lincoln Rd in Henderson after complaining of neck and back pains.
