The world-famous paua shell collection of the late Fred and Myrtle Flutey has been loaned to Canterbury Museum.
The announcement ends months of often heated debate after many people in Southland argued the collection should stay in the Fluteys' hometown of Bluff.
Their grandson, Ross Bowen, offered the collection, removed from the Fluteys' former home, on a 10-year loan.
