A young mother who abandoned her five-year-old son and a three-week-old baby in a car while she partied at a south Auckland house nearby has been convicted and sentenced to 12 months' intensive supervision.
The 26-year-old woman pleaded guilty to two charges of abandoning the boy and the baby in Manukau District Court today.
Police were called by neighbours in the suburb of Wiri and found the children sleeping in a car parked in a driveway while the mother partied at a house about 50 metres away.
Police said the woman was "extremely intoxicated" when found and arrested.
