Half of Merivale Mall in Christchurch was closed this morning after there appeared to be issues with structural integrity.
Retailers were told to move out immediately causing concern for retailers remaining in the unclosed portion of the mall.
Eighteen shops, two kiosks and the Fresh Choice supermarket were closed this morning after engineers deemed the area prone to earthquake damage.
Retailers say it's not a good look having half the mall open and half of it closed. Retailers still trading are likely to suffer from the closure of half the mall.
Mall managers TOWER Property Fund don't know how long cordons will remain in place, however engineers will be back to check the building on Monday.
