A person has died and two people are injured, one seriously, after two vehicles crashed in Bay of Plenty late last night.
Police described the crash on State Highway 29 in the Lower Kaimai area as "serious" but were not commenting on the condition of the people involved.
However, a Northern Ambulance Communications' spokeswoman said one person had died, one was seriously injured and one had moderate injuries. The injured had been taken to Tauranga Hospital.
Police confirmed earlier SH29 was blocked at Lower Kaimai between McLaren Falls Rd and Omanawa Rd.
Drivers should avoid the area for the next five hours, with the alternative route via SH5 and SH36, they said.
