Convicted rapist Brad Shipton has lost a bid to have his parole conditions discharged.
However the Parole Board has agreed to cancel two of the special conditions it imposed on the former cop.
Shipton, a former Tauranga City Councillor, served three years of an 8-1/2 year sentence for his part in the 1989 rape of a woman in Mt Maunganui.
He was subject to both standard and special parole conditions, including not associating with his co-offenders, not contacting the victim or media, or changing address without permission.
Shipton's lawyer said the restraints of parole were "unnecessary at this time and are not required for the safety of the community''.
