KEY POINTS:
A repeat sex offender has been charged with attacking a woman while on parole under Corrections Department supervision.
Legal restrictions prevent the publication of any information that may identify him. But the Herald on Sunday can reveal he is accused of sexually assaulting a woman this year, three days before the end of a strict supervision order.
The man, who is also facing charges over a second, later sexual attack, was on parole after completing a prison sentence for similar offences.
A Corrections spokeswoman said the department imposed 24-hour supervision on the man's release from prison, although not required to by the Parole Board.
The restrictions were relaxed in the month of the alleged attack, although probation staff visited the man on a "regular basis".
