Plans for a King's College after-ball were cancelled after organisers failed to find a venue.
The King's ball was held at Eden Park last night, and parents had been looking at holding an after-ball event within the stadium complex.
A 15-member parent committee - which included New Zealand's richest man, Graeme Hart, and businessman Michael Stiassny - looked at ways of avoiding a police crackdown on booze-fuelled after-ball parties.
Under the plan, students would need a parent to buy drinks for them.
But the move was criticised after the death of student James Webster in early May.
Webster died after binge-drinking vodka at a party in Grey Lynn.
