KEY POINTS:
A west Auckland toddler with broken bones, whose parents have been charged with wilfully ill-treating him, is out of hospital.
The 18-month-old boy was admitted to Starship Children's Hospital on June 23 with injuries including a broken left femur, a fractured right arm and a severely swollen thigh.
His parents, a 30-year-old woman and a 27-year-old man from the west Auckland suburb of Ranui, both face charges of wilfully neglecting him in a manner likely to cause unnecessary suffering.
The parents, whose names are still suppressed, were remanded to appear at a depositions hearing in December when they appeared in Waitakere District Court today.
Detective Sergeant Megan Goldie of Henderson police said the child was discharged from hospital last week.
"He's recovering really well and is with a new caregiver along with his five-year-old sister," Ms Goldie said today.
She said the public had been very supportive and generous towards the boy.
"We've been getting a heap of presents from people arriving at the police station, and lots of offers of respite care."
Judge Phil Recordon denied a name suppression application in the same court on August 9, saying there were no compelling reasons to depart from the right to publish, but his ruling was appealed to the High Court by their lawyer Josie Fuimaono-Sapolu.
A High Court hearing into the name suppression ruling is pending.
