A group of school children remain stuck in the bush after an emergency rescue at Otanewainuku, near Te Puke this morning.
The children, Year 8 students from Tauranga's Rudolf Steiner School, were on a trek to one of the scenic reserve's walking tracks when a parent helper assisting with the school camp fell on a bush track and suffered a suspected dislocated hip.
Police, St John ambulance, firefighters were called to the group about 8.30am today and by noon rescuers had reached the injured woman on foot and were preparing to extract her by rescue helicopter.
The Tauranga TECT TrustPower Rescue Helicopter eventually airlifted the teacher to Tauranga Hospital.
The children are now waiting for others from the group to return to continue their trip.
