KEY POINTS:
A skydiver's parachute failed to open properly this afternoon near Taupo, causing the victim to plough in to bush near Five Mile Bay.
Police have confirmed the incident happened about 12.45pm today.
"The person was unconscious for a little while, but is apparently now talking to people," a police spokeswoman said. "There's a possible fracture to the ankle."
Great Lake Skydive Centre manager Hamish Funnell said he was at the scene of the accident and would put out a statement later today.
He said it appeared the person had a broken knee but it was too early to confirm the extent and nature of all injuries.
