The two people arrested over the disappearance of Napier's iconic Pania of the Reef statue have been remanded in custody.
Senior Sergeant Mike Wright said the 27-year-old man and 26-year-old woman appeared in Napier District Court this morning charged with theft.
They entered no plea and were remanded in custody to reappear before a judge at 10am on Monday.
Today's hearing was before JP Peter Gibson.
