Pampered pooches Missy and Honey opened their Christmas presents while relaxing in front of large-screen TVs and getting doggie "brazilians".
It was all part of the service at luxury Auckland animal hotel Pets in the City.
The 2-year-old bichon frise twins were two of 60 pets spending Christmas Day at the "all-indoor pet hotel", said owner Rob Ellis.
The hotel is one of a number of luxury pet facilities around the country, ranging in price from $10-$49.50 a day.
At Pets in the City, for $18-$49.50 a day, dogs relax in a plush private suite, equipped with king-size bed and flat-screen TV tuned to Animal Planet or Nickelodeon.
Spa and grooming treatments are also on offer, including a "brazilian", where the tummy and private parts are shaved to keep dogs cool during summer.
All of the dogs were yesterday treated to a present from under the tree.
"It's quality of care. They want their dog to be treated as good, or even better, than they are at home," said Ellis.
Missy and Honey have been going to the hotel for two years and are always excited to go back, said owner Lester McKellar. "As soon as they get there they know where they're going."
Other luxury pet facilities include Auckland's Pinky's Pet Boarding, All Seasons Pet Resort and Brookby Pet Lodge. All were fully booked over Christmas.
