Police are confident they will soon find Palmerston North woman Selina Maria Chapman after she made contact with her mother last night.
Ms Chapman called to say she was in the Porirua area.
"I'm confident that we'll find her now first contact has been made and I plan to keep the pressure on regardless until she's physically located," Detective Sergeant David Clifford said.
Police said on Tuesday that the woman had been taken against her will by her former partner.
She had ended a relationship with gang member Daniel Tuilaepa, 29, but was now believed to be with him, Mr Clifford said.
He said police would not ease pressure on Mr Tuilaepa, his friends, family and associates, until they could have a face-to-face meeting with Ms Chapman.
