A Palmerston North school went into lockdown this afternoon as police searched the area for a person thought to have been carrying a firearm.
Police spokeswoman Sara Stavropoulos said officers were called to a domestic violence incident in vicinity of Summerset Crescent School around midday.
Someone who was thought to have been armed left the address so police advised the school to go into lockdown while the armed offenders squad (AOS) searched for the alleged offender.
Ms Stavropoulos said a person had been arrested and the AOS stood down.
The school had since re-opened without incident.
