The man killed in a head-on collision in Palmerston North has been named.
He was Henry Kong, 19.
Mr Kong was killed in a crash on Railway Rd on Monday afternoon.
Police were investigating an oily substance found on the road and a white plastic container found nearby, the Manawatu Standard reported.
Police have not yet named the 27-year-old female passenger killed when a car went off the Arundel-Rakaia Gorge road (State Highway 72) in the Pudding Hills area near Methven last night.
Earlier, a 53-year-old man, originally from New Plymouth but recently living in Australia, was killed when his van collided head-on with an SUV on State Highway 1, north of Taupo.
His name has also not yet been released.
The Christmas/New Year holiday road toll remained at 11 at midday today.
Other fatal accidents during the holiday period occurred at Kumeu, north of Auckland, Morrinsville, northern East Cape, Pukekohe, Gordonton near Hamilton, and Christchurch where three motor cyclists were killed on Saturday.
